About J. Rudd

Josh Rudd, a native of South Florida, has dedicated his life to mentoring youth, advocating for positive change in education and sports, and engaging in philanthropic endeavors. His journey, marked by resilience and commitment, reflects a deep-seated passion for empowering the next generation.

Born and raised amidst the vibrant culture of South Florida, Josh faced adversity early on, navigating the challenges of a tough upbringing compounded by the untimely passing of his father just a week before his high school graduation. Despite these hardships, he forged ahead with determination and a steadfast resolve to make a difference in the lives of others.

Josh’s academic journey led him to Florida State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a focus on Outdoor Recreation and Leisure Services Administration. His formative years at FSU were enriched by invaluable lessons learned under the guidance of legendary coach Mike Martin, whose mentorship profoundly influenced Josh’s approach to leadership and community engagement.

With a heart for service, Josh embarked on a career in education, serving as a teacher for over a decade with a special focus on inner-city schools. His exemplary dedication was recognized in 2017 when he was honored as Teacher of the Year at SLAM Academy in Little Havana, Florida, where he not only taught middle school social studies but also served as the school’s athletic director.

Josh’s commitment to youth development extended beyond the classroom as he spent twelve years working at overnight summer camps in Asheville, NC, and Los Angeles, CA, where he initiated and organized youth leagues across multiple sports. His involvement in baseball coaching, notably with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, one of the country’s premier programs, laid the foundation for his impactful contributions to the sport.

Transitioning into the recruiting sector in 2017, Josh’s innovative approach revolutionized the landscape, guiding over 150 private clients to college commitments and securing millions of dollars in athletic and academic scholarships. His player-centric philosophy prioritizes the holistic well-being and fulfillment of each athlete, challenging traditional norms and fostering a culture of empowerment and accountability.

Noteworthy among Josh’s initiatives is the #ArmCare movement, a proactive endeavor aimed at mitigating arm injuries in baseball by confronting abusive practices within the sport. His advocacy spurred tangible reforms within governing bodies, heralding a new era of player welfare and accountability.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Josh remains deeply committed to philanthropy, spearheading initiatives such as Project 21, the American Kidney Fund, and Teens With Trauma, each embodying his unwavering dedication to fostering resilience, healing, and hope within communities.

Today, Josh continues to teach, working directly with students in Spain and France in his role as an international instructor. He is the President and part-owner at Flatground Sports, a platform founded by partner Rob Friedman in 2019 with a mission of leveling the playing field by offering free exposure and education to unsigned college and pro prospects. Josh lives in North Carolina with his wife of more than a decade, Rachel, and their two children, William and Nora.

Through extensive speaking engagements, videos, and charitable initiatives, Josh Rudd continues to champion the transformative power of mentorship, education, and philanthropy, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touches. His life’s work epitomizes a steadfast commitment to promoting, protecting, and nurturing the potential of future generations.
